Michael Jordan joined the Bulls in 1984 as the third overall draft pick, and quickly emerged as a league star and became well-known to the world. Nike's Air Jordan sneakers fueled by his success remain popular today. But despite his success, no trademarks related to “Jordan” were filed in China.

From 2000, the Chinese sportswear firm Qiaodan Sports has registered nearly 200 trademarks, including “乔丹”, "QIAODAN", “侨丹”, “桥丹”, "Jeffrey Jordan", "Marcus Jordan" etc. Taking the advantages of the celebrity effect, Qiaodan Sports has smoothly and rapidly developed in China.

Actually as early as 8 years ago, Michael Jordan sued Qiaodan Sports for infringing his right of name by recording a video. But the first and the second trials did not support Jordan’s appeal.

After 8 years of legal tussle, this year Qiaodan Sports lost the lawsuit and the mark “Jordan and the graphic” (No. 6020578) in class 25 was invalidated. The court finally gave Michael Jordan a partial victory.
